Life Maps are useful pre-writing tools! Materials: tag board, colored pencils, thin black markers and information from the parent interview gathered yesterday.
This activity serves as a good pre-writing tool that gives students confidence when approaching small writing tasks. Students Will:
Create a Life Map to use as a graphic organizer when writing any autobiographical assignment.
Use a Life Map Checklist to stay on task while creating a Life Map.
Understand and use pictograms to represent personal events and goals in their lives.
Display their Life Maps on a classroom bulletin board.
Read the Biography of Barack Obama - Barack Obama, Son of Promise, Child of Hope - note the use of the vocabulary "bridge" within this story. It is used three different times. The students will be asked to "bridge" sections of their stories (transition) and will be refered back to the use of the word within this story.
Complete the Jumbo Character Card for this story.
Students will create a Jumbo Character for themselves and use this as we begin the writing process.
